Featured Project: Charlotte Home

The foyer of this home features a chandelier from Baker furniture's collection by Jacques Garcia. The front door is solid mahogany and custom designed with The Looking Glass. The gleaming crema marfil marble floor is bordered with mosaics and separates the foyer from the premium walnut floors throughout most of the home. The staircase, lined by custom-made iron and walnut railing, spirals around a glistening crystal Schonbek chandelier. Artwork is displayed on the circular wall at the top of the spiral staircase.

The kitchen's double islands are made of walnut with Calacatta marble countertops. Seating for the first island is provided by Hickory Chair under-counter stools, and by Hancock and Moore for the second island. The kitchen cabinets have glass doors and interior lighting, displaying the objects inside. The glass on each door has cathedral-style mullions that mimic the design of the cabinets in the butler's pantry.  A Wolf range sits in front of a backsplash of simple, white crackle glazed subway tile. A simple faux balloon shade made out of raw silk soften the triple window over the cast iron single bowl sink.

The Butler's pantry is located between the kitchen and the dining room, proving the perfect catering station for either casual or formal dining. The 15-foot butler's pantry is lined with walnut inset cabinets, most with glass lit upper cabinets and cathedral-style mullions. It also houses a polished nickel hammered sink with polished nickel faucet and cut crystal handles, and a built-in coffee station. Thirty feet of the purest Calacatta Gold marble adorn the counter tops, and is repeated with the 3x6 subway tile.

The "exercise restroom" contains custom-designed cabinets with frosted glass fronts and industrial pendants. A heavy beveled square mirror compliments the Blue Pearl granite and glass listello of the shower, as well as the gym floor which is black with gray speckles.

The homeowners' Century dining room furniture, moved from a previous home, balances perfectly with the iron wine doors. The two wine cellars and the mirrored wall occupy one of the walls of the dining room and reflect the lovely Schonbek crystal chandelier and table top adornments. The square glass panels, separated by hand-finished antique gold medallions, compliment the custom iron wine doors. Notice the wide paneled cased openings for the rooms. A collection of crystal candlesticks sparkle against the mirrored trays on which they sit, and reflect the high quality prisms of colors given off by the Strauss crystals of the Schonbek chandelier. Magnolia leaves adorn the white urns by Baker on the Italian buffet.

The breakfast room, located just off of the kitchen, provides the family a casual space to have informal meals. Wide and custom-designed casings add sumptuous features to all doors and windows, and the wide-cased openings of the rooms provide definition with the open floor plan. The breakfast room has a Stark seagrass herringbone style carpet, Hickory Chair table and Council tufted side chairs. A custom-finished Niermann Weeks chandelier hangs above the table. Bent return drapery rods from Kravet are complimented by raw silk Schumacher fabric. Three sets of walnut French doors were custom-made by a local shop and provide access to the wide, covered terraces overlooking the pool.

The gallery runs alongside the dining room and Butler's pantry. The design is duplicated on the other side so that the two halls offer extend from the front entry to the second foyer, providing access to the center sweeping staircase. Damask silk fabric in cream and pale aqua adorn the windows where the simple bent rod return hardware from Kravet is repeated.

Double doors provide entrance to the luxurious sitting room. Notice the heavy architectural hinges used on the French doors leading into the formal living room - these were used throughout the home and matched with the varying door hardware. The cube crystal chandelier from Visual Comfort provides overhead lighting in the room. A Baker silk sofa sits in front of windows adorned with tone-on-tone paisley silk draperies, hung on a lucite JF rod with cut-lead crystal finials. A lucite-and-glasstop cocktail table from EJ Victor is adorned by simple orchids. Councill Craftsmen commodes flank the white marble fireplace, custom-carved from a single block of marble, and lovely Councill club chairs with COM fabric provide additional seating. A white marble table with gold, elegantly curved legs provide a place for family picture and a velvet pumpkin belying the season. A custom, hand-made silk rug from Stark completes the room. Thomas Pheasant's constellation mirror found a home over the mantle. The white marble fireplace was custom-carved from a single block of marble. Classic urn, full columns and rosette details adorn the white marble fireplace surround, providing the perfect example of combining traditional elements with the sleekness of the E J Victor lucite cocktail table. Stark carpet provides the wool carpet anchoring the room, while Councill Crafstman chests flank the fireplace produced by Franchois and Company.

The den fireplace projects beyond the customary with a limestone-covered wall, built out to emphasize the fireplace with the over-mantle niche made to fit the TV. Sumptuous Baker chairs were repurposed from the previous home with Jessica Charles swivel chairs and a Hickory Chair sofa completing the seating. Raw silk Schumacher fabric with a subtle panel adorn the windows. Stark carpet provides the wool carpet anchoring the room, while Councill Crafstman chests flank the fireplace produced by Franchois and Company. A simple gold and glass Baker cocktail table holds books and glorious hydrangeas. Clear, subtle accessories do not compete, but harmoniously create flow throughout the home.

A more traditional oriental rug takes center stage in this walnut-paneled study. French chairs from Hancock and Moore were repurposed from the previous home, as was the Theodore Alexander round table. The addition of a mirrored tray changes the look drastically by reflecting fresh flowers that are changed weekly. The surprise elements of this otherwise very traditional room are the black lacquered Ralph Lauren desk by Henredon and the Motherwell art hanging behind the desk. A heavily-carved Black mock croc leather chair also by Ralph Lauren provides seating for the desk and the black leather is repeated by the nail-studded bench in front of the fireplace by Baker. The marble surround and mantle top is Emperador dark marble. A live finish antique brass chandelier from Visual Comfort compliments the sconces from the same line.

The walnut-paneled gentlemen's closet was designed to look like a fine clothier, with ample storage for clothing and accessories. A drum-style Baker chandelier hangs over the island, and recessed LED lights are designed to come on when the doors are opened. A rolling brass ladder circles the room so that lesser used items can be reached on the upper cabinets. Ralph Lauren wool plaid wool pillows and mohair seat adorn the bench under the window. The plantation shutters are painted in a masculine color to compliment the room.

Clean, simple white cabinets surround the lady's closet and each section was carefully detailed and spaced by the homeowner. Crystal hardware compliments the Schonbek crystal chandelier. Gorgeous blue silk adorns the closet window with a very customized curve shade that operates.

The details in the master bedroom come together to create the ultimate cozy, luxurious retreat. The Hickory Chair bed with a tufted headboard sits atop a custom high-low carpet from Stark. The room is lit by a custom chandelier from Pecaso, and lamps that sit on Century nightstands. Lounge on the Hancock and Moore bench, seated in front of the wall-to-floor, flowy drapes by Schumacher.
